The votes cast this year were nearly unanimous.

Marshall Einhorn was selected by his peers in the LFM Class of 2007 as the winner of the Seventh Annual Charles "Harrison" Smith III Memorial Award on May 2.

Several members of the Smith family and previous award winners were on hand to see Einhorn accept the honor. The award was created in honor of Smith, 27, a member of the LFM Class of 1999 who was tragically killed in an automobile accident shortly after his graduation on his way to his job at Dell, Inc. Smith's LFM classmates created the award as a way to remember his lasting contributions to the LFM program. Each subsequent class has had the opportunity to nominate peer students who they believe have made outstanding contributions to the LFM program that year.

Rob Mosher, LFM ' 99, who was a friend of Smith's, presented the award to Einhorn, whom classmates describe as a "selfless person" and a "friend to everyone in the class."

"Everyone puts a lot into this program, and it was an honor just to be nominated," said Einhorn in remarks after he received his award. He thanked the Smith family – Harrison's mother and father, Sandra and Charles Harrison Smith, Jr., and his sister and her son, Sandee and George Story – for flying in from North Carolina to attend the event, as they do every year.

Smith is remembered as a lively, intelligent young man who connected with everyone in his class. "He seemed to be involved in a million things, and he was good at them all," said Mosher, quoting one of Smith's former classmates. The award gives LFM students a chance to reflect on a peer's impact on the class, Mosher added.
