Financial Info & Scholarship
LFM's academic and corporate partners provide generous fellowships for all current students. In exchange, most internships are unpaid. Students are responsible for approximately ¼ of their tuition, their own living expenses, laptop, books, course packets, and other fees. Applicants should contact MIT Student Financial Aid for information concerning additional support at http://web.mit.edu/sfs/financial_aid/.
Sponsorship
Applicants whose employers are LFM partners are encouraged to discuss sponsorship with their human resources department or their company's LFM Operating Committee member. You may contact the the LFM Office at 617.253.1055 or lfm@mit.edu to obtain further information.
There is no post-graduation obligation requiring non-sponsored students to work for LFM partner companies (sponsored students' obligations will vary depending on the company). LFMers have had a long history of assuming leadership roles in a wide variety of manufacturing and operations companies, both partners and non-partners. However, students should understand that partner companies are funding the program with the expectation that they will hire LFMers to meet their manufacturing/operations leadership needs. It's important that all students understand the unique industry/academic partnership with our companies that allows LFM to offer its generous and unique fellowship. Students admitted to LFM should make a good faith effort to consider employment by our partners, since program sustainability depends upon their funding the program. Students expecting to go into careers in banking, financial services, or consulting should consider programs other than LFM which are more aligned with these career goals. During the second year, students are encouraged to use the networking and career development opportunities offered through LFM to become familiar with its partner companies and associated manufacturing job opportunities, as well as other manufacturing and operations companies.
