Community: Alumni

Alumni

After commencement, LFM graduates become part of an extended community of LFM alumni that offers networking opportunities and events that span a lifetime and the globe. LFM alumni provide information and support for each other throughout their careers.

Several partner companies have their own internal network of LFM alums, such as The Boeing Company, which employs over 30 alums. LFM alums operate their own site on the LFM Web site, which offers information on events and activities, employment opportunities, and more.

Examples of ongoing events and activities are the following:

Web Seminars

On the first and third Friday's of each month at noon Eastern time, LFM sponsors faculty and alumni to speak about interesting topics live over the Internet. The faculty talk about their latest research. The alumni talk about their industry and the latest trends. Students are welcome to attend.

LFM Alumni Council

Each month on the second Friday of the month, a group of dedicated alumni gathers on web and telephone conference to aide the LFM community and to influence the program towards issues relevant in today's world. Each month covers a key initiative. Past projects the council has worked on include: alumni - students mentoring, career panels, fund raising, job forum, and alumni conferences. All LFM students and alumni are welcome.

LFM Alumni Conference

Each year a group of alumni host a reunion conference for their fellow LFM alums. The conference, usually held in the fall, includes two days of speakers, workshops, and lots of time for networking. The 2007 conference was held in Seattle, Washington. Every four years the conference returns to Boston to be hosted at MIT. In November, 2008, LFM's alumni conference and 20th anniversary celebration will be held on MIT's campus.

Regional Get-Togethers

Many LFMs find themselves working in the same areas as other LFMs, often at the same companies. Individual LFMs often host BBQs or picnics at their homes or get-togethers at local restaurants. These regional get-togethers are opportunities to talk about problems at work, how to stay balanced, world and local issues as well as catch up on everyone's families.
